A Flemish top piece in Hoogstraten’s Church of Saint Catherine

Lecture by Leen Huet

On Friday 7 June at 8 pm, author Leen Huet will give a lecture about Scenes from the Life of Saint Joseph, a singular panel from the second half of the 15th century which features on the list of top pieces of Belgium’s Flemish Community. Though it is admittedly not the most striking piece of art in the church, it still reveals its charm to the eyes of the attentive beholder. Its iconography is rare, as artists in the 15th and 16th century tended to depict Joseph mainly as Mary’s husband, whereas this piece makes him the primary subject.
The panel itself will of course be there to view during the drinks and bites after the lecture.

Attendance is free!
